How it works?
Orforglipron activates the same GLP-1 receptor your gut hormone uses after eating — but as a small molecule, so it works in tablet form. It supports weight management three ways:
Quietens appetite
acts on the brain's hunger signals, easing cravings and the urge to snack.
Keeps you fuller for longer
slows how quickly your stomach empties, so smaller portions satisfy.
Steadies blood sugar
helps regulate the glucose response after meals.
In trials, weight reduction came mainly from fat mass, including visceral fat, with a smaller reduction in lean mass. It works alongside a reduced-calorie diet, more activity, and clinical support. The combination is what lasts, not the medicine alone.
How you take it:
One tablet once daily, at any time of day — no food or water restriction;
Swallow whole — don't break, crush or chew the tablet;
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you can — never take more than one tablet in a day
Is it right for you?
Suitability is a clinical decision your prescriber makes after a full assessment.
As a general guide, treatment is licensed for adults with:
A BMI of 30 or above;
A BMI of 27 or above with a weight-related condition — high blood pressure, raised cholesterol, pre-diabetes, type 2 diabetes, obstructive sleep apnoea or cardiovascular disease.
Thresholds may be considered at a lower BMI for some ethnic backgrounds, where health risks can occur earlier. Your clinician accounts for this.
It may not be suitable if you
are pregnant, planning pregnancy or breastfeeding;
have a known hypersensitivity to orforglipron or any of the tablet's ingredients;
have a history of pancreatitis, severe liver impairment, or are under 18.
Tell your clinician if you have type 2 diabetes, diabetic eye disease, gallbladder problems, take insulin or a sulfonylurea, take a strong CYP3A4 inhibitor or inducer, or take another GLP-1 medicine.
That's what the assessment is for — checking it's safe for you, not waving everyone through.
The evidence
Studied in the ATTAIN and ACHIEVE phase 3 programmes — large randomised trials of orforglipron alongside diet and exercise. These are trial averages, not a prediction of your result.

Milestones above are ATTAIN-1 at week 72 for the highest dose versus placebo. Lower doses also gave significant reductions — your dose is matched to how you respond.
Beyond weight loss: in ATTAIN-1, treatment also reduced waist circumference and improved blood pressure and lipids. Orforglipron is not licensed to treat those conditions.
Results depend heavily on staying with the programme — which is why the support matters as much as the medicine.
Dosage guide
Treatment starts at 0.8 mg and steps up through six strengths — at least 30 days at each level — giving your body time to adjust and reducing side effects. One tablet, once daily, throughout. The maximum dose is 17.2 mg once daily.

Your clinician may hold you at a dose longer if that's right. Not everyone needs 17.2 mg — your maintenance dose depends on response and tolerability, and the maximum is 9 mg if you take a strong CYP3A4 or OATP1B inhibitor.

Side Effects
Like any medicine, Orforglipron tablets can cause side effects — though not everyone gets them.
More common:
Most are digestive, mild, and ease as your body adjusts. They're more noticeable when you start or step up a dose, which is why the dose rises gradually.
Nausea
Diarrhoea
Vomiting
Constipation
Stomach pain
Bloating
Heartburn
Tiredness
Less common but serious — get medical advice promptly:
Severe persistent stomach pain (possible pancreatitis);
Gallbladder problems;
Signs of dehydration or kidney problems after ongoing sickness;
Serious allergic reaction (swelling of face, lips, tongue or throat; difficulty breathing);
Low blood sugar, more likely alongside other glucose-lowering medicines.
Foundayo is a prescription-only medicine, supervised by a clinician. This reflects the UK Summary of Product Characteristics (August 2026). Report side effects via the MHRA Yellow Card scheme, and always tell your clinical team.
Switching from another GLP-1
If you're already on another GLP-1 — including the Wegovy Pill — moving to Foundayo is a clinical review, not an automatic swap. Orforglipron is a different molecule, so doses do not convert across.¹
Your prescriber sets the right starting dose based on your current treatment and how you've responded.

The doses don't match one-to-one
Most people restart at 0.8 mg and titrate up every 30 days, whatever dose they were on before.¹
Planned around your last injection
Foundayo starts a set interval after the final dose of your current treatment. Your clinician confirms the exact timing to avoid gaps or overlap.¹
Why people switch
Usually because a daily tablet with no food, drink or timing rules fits life better — but it's only right if it suits you clinically.
